What you can prepare in the meantime

  1. Understand the programme. Read the Study & Work in Finland overview and the specific pathway pages: Practical Nurse or Care Assistant. Know what you are committing to.
  2. Read about the language. Finnish is central to the programme. See Finnish for Healthcare to understand what you will be studying. If you can find a beginner Finnish course locally or online now, it will not hurt.
  3. Understand life in Finland. A realistic picture matters. See Life in Finland for an honest view of what the everyday will be like.
  4. Read the FAQ. Most common questions are answered on the FAQ page.
  5. Prepare your CV and motivation letter so that when the next intake opens, you can apply quickly. We look for motivation, cognitive ability and language learning aptitude — be honest about your background.

What we look for in applicants

Motivation and long-term commitment

The programme is long. We look for people planning a long career in Finnish healthcare, not a short-term move.

Language learning aptitude

Finnish is not close to English or Filipino languages. Realistic capacity to learn a new language is a prerequisite.

Cultural adaptability

Finland is small, direct, quiet and has dark winters. Openness to a different everyday culture matters.

The eight steps once applications open

When the next application window opens, the process will follow the same eight steps we always use:

  1. Apply during the intake window
  2. Entrance exam
  3. Enrollment in the programme
  4. Intensive Finnish language and cultural orientation
  5. Language proficiency assessment
  6. Residence permit and visa preparation
  7. Move to Finland and continue vocational studies
  8. Paid clinical practice and graduation

Total duration is typically 12 – 24 months depending on the pathway and your starting level.

Participation in the programme does not guarantee employment in Finland. Employment decisions are made by Finnish employers on their own criteria after the clinical placement.
