We are not a recruitment agency

We do not place workers into shifts. Instead we run a structured curriculum that combines sector-specific Finnish language teaching, vocational studies aligned with Finnish qualification requirements, and paid clinical practice at partner care facilities. Our tutors, coordinators and housing team stay with each student from admission to graduation.

Owned by the Mehiläinen group

HSS is part of the Finnish Mehiläinen group. In practical terms that means long-term operation, contractual frameworks, supervision and quality accountability — not a short-lived recruitment scheme that could disappear next year.

Two audiences

Our programmes are open to international candidates planning a long career in Finnish healthcare. They are also open, and increasingly popular, with immigrants already living in Finland who need to reach the Finnish language level required to practise. Both routes end in the same certification and both are free of charge to accepted candidates.

Our own learning platform

We built our own learning platform for the specific needs of healthcare training. AI marks written exercises and gives feedback immediately, AI produces the tailored listening audio, and a named coordinator watches each student’s progress week by week. The same platform is also the technology behind suomikoe.fi, our Finnish language proficiency assessment.

Partnership with Finnish vocational colleges

For the Practical Nurse pathway, HSS teaches and a Finnish vocational college validates the qualification so it is recognised by Valvira. We are not a degree-awarding institution ourselves, but the college partnership is a core part of the pathway. We do not publish the names of partner colleges on this site.

Publications

We publish our thinking on Finnish healthcare staffing under the HSS Insights label. The first analysis is the 2025 – 2030 Nurse Demand Analysis (in Finnish). The aim is to keep the conversation about care staffing evidence-based rather than anecdotal.
