Language training
Finnish for healthcare.
A structured language pathway from A0 to B1, built entirely around the vocabulary that nurses and care workers actually use — patients, hand-overs, medication, symptoms, everyday care. Free of charge to accepted students.
Why healthcare Finnish is different from everyday Finnish
The Finnish spoken at a nursing home — patient interaction, documentation, professional terminology — needs a specific vocabulary that a general Finnish course does not teach. Someone fluent in everyday Finnish may still not be able to guide a person with dementia through morning routines, or write a care decision in the electronic system. Our programme is built to close exactly that gap.
How the pathway is structured
Foundations, from the alphabet up
Nine themed modules take you from the Finnish alphabet through greetings, personal introductions, vowel harmony, personal pronouns and the “olla” verb, into numbers, the clock, cases, family, food, and the first professional vocabulary. Weekly exam at the end of each module.
Vocabulary shifts to the ward
Fourteen weekly modules move the language into professional territory: helping a patient, moving around a nursing home, giving medication, following recipes and duty rosters, using the phone and computer at work, calling 112, discussing symptoms and pain, hygiene routines, secretion handling, imperatives and conditionals for polite instructions.
Ready for vocational studies
The final block builds the fluency needed to follow lähihoitaja-level lectures in Finnish and to hold a full handover conversation with a Finnish supervisor. Reading, listening, writing and speaking are all measured against the national language proficiency framework.
How you actually learn
AI-assisted writing feedback
You get immediate feedback on written exercises — structure, vocabulary, grammar, clarity — without waiting for a teacher hour to correct them.
Tailored listening exercises
AI produces the listening audio: multiple voices, slower pace at beginner level. The content is tailored to healthcare situations, not a generic language course.
Interactive weekly exercises
Hundreds of exercises — matching, drag-and-drop, fill-in, listening, short answer — track your progress by module. Each week ends in a scored exam that unlocks the next module.
A coordinator alongside you
A named coordinator watches your dashboard, meets you weekly online, and steps in the moment something starts to slip. You do not study alone.
Gamified practice
Word games, memory games, crosswords, spoken word recognition. Learning is tracked, but it is not dry — motivation stays across the programme.
All progress recorded
Every exercise, exam, listening attempt and spoken attempt is logged systematically. You and your coordinator can see exactly which modules are secure and which need another pass.
